Employee retention is critically important in today’s tight labor market. The Wall Street Journal has a good article the use of career paths to help retain workers. The idea is that instead of a very broad job description, which can cover workers with minimal skills as well as experienced workers who have developed a good bit of knowledge, the company creates a series of jobs, promoting frequently. It’s not a cure-all, but it’s a good item to have in the employee retention tool kit.
