I’ve been skeptical (like this post) for some time about the claims that we have a national savings crisis. Now the New York Times, which I think is a newspaper on the east coast, has an article about economists who are also skeptical. They cite research that most folks approaching retirement age are OK. The Times features Joel Kotlikoff, a very smart guy whom I’d trust with my retirement calculations. (Hat to Marginal Revolution.) In fact, he’s developed an on-line retirement calculator, though I cannot vouch for it at this time.
Even though I don’t think we have a national savings crisis, it’s still possible that you have a personal savings crisis. Don’t complain to me if you’re eating dog food 20 years from now.
