Newspapers Are So 20th Century

Newspaper circulation is down again, still, according to today’s Wall Street Journal.  They write, "Nearly every major U.S. newspaper suffered circulation declines . . ."  Ouch.

That’s why I’m not reporting on developments in the Help Wanted Advertising Index published by the Conference Board.  It used to be a good measure of how much employers wanted to hire, but newspapers are not where it’s at anymore.  I’ve had tremendous success advertising on Craigslist, and I’ve heard good things about Monster.com.

Although Monster produces a measure of its advertising activity, I think there’s too much turmoil to adopt it and ignore newspaper ads.  In short, we’re flying blind.  But if you’re hiring, look into the on-line options, especially if you want younger, technically savvy employees.
